Atelier Robotiq

Atelier Robotiq is a Rotterdam-based design studio founded by Søren Blomaard and Anne-Lise Heydra, where aerospace engineering, product design, fine arts, and robotics converge. We create light, geometric abstraction, and iconic, pure forms through contemporary light sculptures and innovative designs.

Our work explores the intersection of craftsmanship and technology, blending traditional methods with cutting-edge robotics. From our first major collection, the Fiber Pattern Lamps, to our latest Tape Winding creations like the Sway and Tilt lamps, we push the boundaries of design by integrating diverse knowledge and techniques.

For our latest design we were inspired by traditional Japanese lantern-making, we started by using materials such as cotton tape to create soft, diffused light. We developed an innovative robotic weaving process that scales intricate handwoven patterns with precision, resulting in visually striking and functional designs.

We embrace technology while preserving craftsmanship. By taking the time to craft timeless products, our lamps embody the essence of thoughtful design—objects meant to endure and be cherished for generations.

About Us

Søren Blomaard and Anne-Lise Heydra bring together an unusual but captivating mix of skills. Their work results in innovative light sculptures that are both functional and artistic.

It all began with a mood board pinned to the wall in their home—a simple idea that sparked a journey of exploration.

Søren, a graduate in Industrial Product Design from Delft University of Technology, and Anne-Lise, a fine arts graduate from the Willem de Kooning Art Academy, started experimenting with materials and processes to push creative boundaries.

Their early experiments with robotic fiber weaving—a technique originally developed for aerospace applications—laid the foundation for their distinctive approach..

The team of Atelier Robotiq loves to experiment with new materials and truly get to know a production process, learning new things and taking time for ideas and designs to grow and mature.

Every step in the making process is developed by the team, including the tools.

“Seeing the beautiful geometrical fiber patterns on these industrial products inspired us to use these patterns in lighting and furniture designs.”
